while you were sleeping

lots of stuff 176
The professors marked, partially shorn leg; prepped and ready for surgery.

Dear Professor,

I love you a lot. More than I realized, not that I didn't know how much I loved you its just that I am falling apart much more than I thought I would. Right now you are passed out in the next building where skilled surgeons are building you a new ACL from your hamstring. I am in the main hospital cafeteria starring out a window at big trees and a little park. This place is swanky, the lobby is like 5star hotel swanky, there is live piano player and a statue of a lady on a horse. I think Al Rocker just walked by. Super Swanky. I couldn't decide if I wanted to stuff my face or eat nothing so I did the responsible thing and got a veggie omelet and a sausage link. I wolfed down the sausage and picked at the omelet. There is a cinnamon roll that I have been thinking about for twenty minutes now.... Hopefully I by the time you read this I haved saved you some. Did you know this hospital is called Sacred Heart? But it looks more like the hospital on Private Practice than Scrubs.

You were loopy when I came to see you before surgery. You asked if they had let me back there or if I had sneaked in, then you asked me to pick your nose. I handed you a tissue and told you that you had to do it yourself. I have to admit I feel bad about it now. What kind of wife would I be if I couldn't pick your nose in your hour of need????
Gratefully your arms are fine and I am able to rationalize that if you really needed me to, like both arms are tied down or broken or missing, I would in fact pick your nose. I love you that much. Hopefully it never comes to that.

It's almost time for me to go back and be waiting for you when you wake up. It is going to be a difficult few months ahead, but I have faith. I have faith, that the pain will not be so bad (good drugs) I have faith that you will heal quickly and and get full mobility back in your leg. I have faith that I will take care of you with kindness patience and love. Like a devoted nurse who falls in love with her patient in a WWII movie. I might even have a hat. Last night two righteous men who hold the priesthood, came to give you a blessing. I am so glad they did. How wonderful the church is, how wonderful it is to have the priesthood in our home. And when you need a blessing there are friends we can call to help us in our time of need. That strangers in our new ward, come up to us after church and offer their services in our time of need. Because thats what family does, they take care of each other, our ward family takes care of us. I am grateful for that. I am grateful for prayer, for the peace it brings in hard times, and for the guidance it brings in times of confusion. I have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is my savior, he is your savior and I love him. I love the prophet and I love the apostles and the guidance they bring. Current, relevant, revelations from our heavenly father who knows what we are struggling with now. Not just what happened thousands of years ago, but what is going on in the world today. The problems we face with our children, with the media, with life. What a gift.

I love you, and can't wait to see you, when you wake up.

your, wife.
